East Malaysia IV: Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center, Sabah

At the entrance of Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. An impressive thing to note is the Chinese wording which you normally could not find in West Malaysia, even Chinese forms  one forth of its population and even with the fact that mainland China has become one of the most sought-after tourist nowadays.

Two feeding sessions each day
Orangutan  is actually the Malay word for "man of the forest". "Orang "in malay means "man", "utan" (or hutan) means "forest".  This unbelievable apes only found in Borneo and Sumatra Island and are endangered.

A shy baby orangutan

Orangutan rescued from the wild (normally are those baby orangutan abandoned in the forest where their mother killed by poacher or hunger to death when they couldn't find their way out when get lost in the ever growing palm plantations) will be released to the wild near the center.

Those stronger apes will quickly get used to the forest and never look back again. However, not all are brave enough to leave the center, for some reason, they can't pick up the skill living in the wild and will rely on the center throughout its life.
